Boiler Servicing and Why It Matters for Your Warranty

An annual boiler service can feel like an easy thing to put off, especially when the boiler seems to be working fine. One reason it's worth keeping up with anyway: most manufacturer warranties depend on it.

Warranties are usually conditional, not automatic

Most new boilers come with a manufacturer warranty of anywhere from two to ten years, but that cover is almost always conditional on an annual service by a Gas Safe registered engineer, recorded and kept on file. Miss a year, and a manufacturer can, and sometimes will, refuse a claim on a part that would otherwise have been covered.

What an annual service actually checks

  • Safety checks: correct ventilation, flue integrity, and that carbon monoxide is not being produced at unsafe levels.
  • Efficiency checks: burner pressure and cleanliness, so the boiler isn't quietly using more gas than it should to do the same job.
  • Wear and tear: seals, valves and moving parts checked for early signs of a problem, before they turn into a breakdown.

Keep the paperwork

Ask for a service record or certificate every time, and keep it somewhere findable. If a warranty claim is ever needed, or the boiler is sold with the house later, that paper trail is what proves the servicing history.

When to book

Early autumn is the best time, before the first cold snap of the year when everyone else has the same idea and engineers are booked solid. It also means any issue found gets fixed while there's still time, rather than in the middle of a cold week.

CallGas carries out Gas Safe registered boiler servicing across Walton-on-Thames, West Molesey and the surrounding area, with a proper record provided every time. Call 07973 793306 to get booked in.
