How to Prepare Your Home for a Boiler Installation
A new boiler installation usually takes a day, sometimes two for a more involved job, and a little preparation beforehand makes the day go more smoothly for everyone.
Clear access to the boiler and around the property
Make sure the area around the current boiler, and the route to it, is clear. If the boiler is in a loft, cupboard or garage, worth clearing anything stored nearby the day before, so the engineer isn't working around boxes.
Think about parking
A boiler installation involves carrying in equipment and, sometimes, a new cylinder or tank, so easy parking close to the property genuinely helps.
Plan around no heating or hot water for the day
The heating and hot water will usually be off while the old boiler comes out and the new one goes in. Worth planning around this, especially with young children or anyone in the household who relies on regular hot water.
Have your paperwork questions ready
It's worth asking upfront about the manufacturer's warranty, what it covers, and whether the installation will be registered for Building Regulations compliance, since a reputable installer will always do this as standard.
What happens afterwards
At the end of the job, a good installer will walk you through the new system: how to top up the pressure, what the controls do, and what to do if something doesn't seem right. Worth taking a few photos of the finished setup too, in case you need to ask a question later.
