What to Expect When You Have a New Bathroom Installed

A new bathroom and bath fitted by CallGas Ltd

A bathroom installation touches plumbing, sometimes heating, and often a fair bit of disruption to daily life for a few days. Knowing roughly what to expect makes the whole process easier to plan around.

The initial visit and plan

A good installation starts with a visit to look at the existing plumbing, layout and any structural considerations, followed by a clear plan covering what's being moved, what's staying, and roughly how long the job will take.

Stripping out the old bathroom

The first day or two usually involves removing the old suite, tiling and, if needed, flooring, along with any first-fix plumbing changes if fittings are being moved to new positions.

First-fix plumbing and any heating work

Pipework gets run to the new positions for the bath, shower, toilet and basin, and any related heating work, such as a towel radiator, gets first-fixed at the same stage, before walls and floors are closed up.

Second fix and finishing

Once tiling and flooring are done, the actual bath, shower, toilet, basin and taps go in, along with final connections and testing, before a last check that everything runs properly with no leaks.

Living around the work

Most homes only have one bathroom, so it's worth planning around a few days without it: whether that's a downstairs toilet, a neighbour, or simply timing the job for when it's least disruptive. Worth raising this with whoever is doing the work so it's factored into the schedule.

CallGas handles the plumbing and heating side of bathroom installations across Walton-on-Thames, West Molesey and the surrounding area, and talks customers through each stage as it happens. Call 07973 793306 to discuss a project.
